Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for CBC Email Address

To protect ourselves from cybercriminals, we will be implementing Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for CBC Google Emails. Please read the the steps below on how to implement Two-Factor Authentication.

How to turn on Two-Factor Verification

  1. Click on this link: Google Account and enter your email/password if you are not already logged in.
    • If you have multiple Google accounts make sure you are signed into the correct one.
  2. On the lefthand navigation panel, select Security.
  3. Under “Signing in to Google” select 2-Step Verification. On the next screen click the Get Started button.
  4. Enter your cell phone number or click “Show more options” for more ways to verify your account. Then click “Next.”
    • If your phone is already listed, click “Show More Options” and select “Security Key” OR “Text message or voice call“.
  5. Once you receive your verification code, enter it without the “G-” prefix then click “Next“.
  6. Lastly, click “Turn On.” After completing this step, your Two-Factor Authentication will be enabled. That’s it!

FAQs

What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?

2FA is an extra layer of security to ensure that you are the only one who can log in to your account. When you log into an account with 2FA enabled, you will receive a code in an app on your phone or sent via text message that confirms your identity. Even if a cybercriminal steals your password, they will not be able to access your account without your 2FA code.

Do I have to use my personal phone?

The best way to authenticate your identity is with your smartphone, whether via an app or by receiving a text message. If you don’t have a smartphone, please reach out to administrator@compasschurch.org.

How will this impact me?

For most of you who don’t access email outside of work or on your phones, this change will have little to no impact on your day-to-day, because 2FA prompts are normally only required when you are logging in on a new device or in a new location.

For those of you who travel or access company emails remotely, you will need to authenticate yourself regularly.

Is this mandatory?

Yes, using 2FA is mandatory.
